What is Netherite?

Netherite is the highest tier of material in Minecraft, surpassing even diamond in terms of durability, damage, and knockback resistance. It is primarily used to upgrade existing diamond equipment, making it more powerful and resilient. Netherite items also possess unique properties, such as not being destroyed in lava.

Where to Find Ancient Debris

The key to obtaining Netherite lies in finding its raw form: Ancient Debris. This ore generates naturally within the Nether dimension. It is quite rare and does not typically spawn in large veins. Players often need to explore extensively and employ specific mining techniques to locate it. Ancient Debris is most commonly found between Y-levels 8 and 22, with a peak concentration around Y-level 15. It generates more frequently in pockets and less often as exposed veins.

Mining Ancient Debris

Ancient Debris has a blast resistance similar to obsidian, making it immune to explosions from TNT and beds. This property is often exploited by players to clear large areas of netherrack quickly and expose Ancient Debris. When mined without the correct pickaxe, Ancient Debris will drop nothing. Therefore, a diamond or netherite pickaxe is essential for collecting it.

Several mining strategies are effective for finding Ancient Debris:

• Strip Mining: This classic technique involves digging long, straight tunnels at the optimal Y-levels. While reliable, it can be slow and tedious.
• Explosions: Utilizing TNT or beds (which explode in the Nether) can rapidly clear large sections of the Nether. Players must be cautious of the resulting explosions and the dangers of the Nether environment. Placing blocks between yourself and the explosion is crucial for survival.
• Bridging: Some players bridge out over lava lakes or vast caverns at the correct Y-levels and then mine outwards or use explosives.

It is important to note that Ancient Debris will not generate above the Nether's roof (Y-level 127 and above).

Processing Ancient Debris

Once you have collected Ancient Debris, it needs to be processed to become usable Netherite. This involves two steps:

1. Smelting: Place Ancient Debris into a furnace or blast furnace. Each block of Ancient Debris will smelt into one Netherite Scrap.
2. Crafting: Combine four Netherite Scraps with four Gold Ingots in a crafting table to create one Netherite Ingot. The arrangement of these items in the crafting grid does not matter.

Using Netherite Ingots

Netherite Ingots are the final product and are used to upgrade diamond equipment. This is done at a Smithing Table. Place a diamond item in the first slot and a Netherite Ingot in the second slot. The Smithing Table will then produce the Netherite version of the item. This upgrade process preserves any enchantments the diamond item may have had.

The items that can be upgraded to Netherite are:

Netherite gear offers superior durability, attack damage (for tools and swords), and armor toughness compared to their diamond counterparts. Additionally, Netherite items have increased knockback resistance and, most importantly, will not burn in lava, preventing accidental loss.
