NQF Level refers to the classification system that forms the foundation of South Africa's National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The 10-level structure enables clear progression pathways and ensures that qualifications from different providers, sectors, and institutions are comparable and nationally recognized.

The 10-Level Structure

The NQF consists of 10 distinct levels with clear progressions:

• Levels 1-4: General Education (foundational through secondary completion at matric/Grade 12)
• Level 5: Further Education and Training - Higher Certificates (advanced vocational training)
• Level 6: Further Education and Training - Diplomas (professional qualifications)
• Level 7: Higher Education - Bachelor's Degrees (first university degrees)
• Level 8: Higher Education - Postgraduate Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas
• Levels 9-10: Postgraduate - Master's and Doctoral Degrees (advanced research qualifications)

Universities, FET colleges, private training organizations, and government departments all align their qualifications with the NQF.
