What Is NZeTA?

NZeTA stands for New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority. It's an electronic permit required for certain visitors traveling to New Zealand. The system was introduced on October 1, 2019, replacing the previous system of issuing visitor visas on arrival. NZeTA streamlines the entry process for travelers from visa-exempt countries by allowing them to obtain authorization before their journey.

Who Needs NZeTA?

NZeTA is required for visitors from visa-exempt countries who plan to visit New Zealand for tourism, business, or visiting friends and family. Citizens of many countries, including Australia, Canada, the United States, and most European nations, are eligible for visa exemption and must obtain NZeTA. However, citizens of some countries still require traditional visas, while Australian permanent residents and citizens don't need NZeTA.

How to Apply and Costs

NZeTA applications are made entirely online through the official New Zealand Immigration website or mobile application. The application takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and typically includes questions about your identity, passport details, employment, criminal history, and health. The cost is NZD $23 for online web applications or NZD $35 for mobile phone applications. Payment is made via credit or debit card.

Validity and Multiple Entries

Once approved, NZeTA is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. The permit allows unlimited multiple entries into New Zealand during this period, though each visit must comply with the conditions of the permit. If your passport is renewed or expires before your NZeTA expires, you'll need to obtain a new NZeTA with your new passport.
